Everything about urethroplasty treatment

Urethroplasty surgery or Urethroplasty treatment is nothing but the treatment of any injury or defect in the walls of the urethra with surgery. An urethroplasty is usually recommended for patients with a urethral stricture. Urethroplasty purpose may be the result of repeated episodes of urethritis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, scarring from a previous surgery, injury to the pelvic region or from pressure of a tumor.

Urethroplasty surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, any of the two ways anastomotic technique and tissue transfer.

Though all the Urethroplasty surgery treatments are almost successful, yet there are a few Urethroplasty risks, which can be prevented with proper care that are to be taken pre and post operation.

Urethroplasty risks may range from recurrence of urethral stricture to infection like wound infection or urinary tract infection.

Pre-operative Urethroplasty precautions include refraining from taking aspirin or Ibuprofen at least 2 weeks before Urethroplasty. The patient should also avoid smoking. Post operative Urethroplasty precautions include staying in bed for at least two days, proper administering of pain killers and antibiotics for the next few days. A unrethroplasty patient should avoid activities like lifting heavy weights, playing sports or having sexual intercourse for at least 2 weeks after Urethroplasty.
